Description

The garden terrace, steps, lily pool, and urn located to the east of Hascombe Court were constructed in the early 20th century. The westernmost part was built around 1906-07 by J.D. Coleridge, while the lower section may have been partly designed by C. Clare Nauheim around 1922, in connection with garden improvements by Gertrude Jekyll for Sir John Jarvis Bart. The remainder was completed by Percy Cane for the same client.

The upper wall is made of stone rubble and features a round-headed arch with a giant keystone, flanked by paired blank round-headed arches with stone capitals. It includes seats and a circular stone lily pond with a lion's head waterspout. The terrace is paved with York flagstones and red brick, featuring recessed semi-circular stone seats at either end. A stone urn sits on a gadrooned base, decorated with four panels depicting a central bird flanked by cornucopiae. The lower terrace is enclosed by walls at both ends, with a stone balustrade on the eastern wall.
