TILFORD C.P. CROOKSBURY ROAD Summer House, Walls and Gate Piers to Crooksbury House

GV II

Summer house, gate piers and wall to front of Crooksbury House. 1890 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Red brick with hipped plain tiled roof on summer house. Garden wall from end of house enclosing forecourt,with tile coping and curving down to square stone-capped gate piers, approximately 1½ metres apart, and standing on moulded plinths. Wall approximately 1½ metres high, offset and panelled under tile coping to upper third, with two pedimented and curved gates enclosing round steps to left end; each arched gateway with keystone and impost blocks, the wall continuing to the left and attached to the end of the house. The right hand gate pier (of the main entrance) return wall connected to square summer house with acorn finial to roof, and arched wooden door up a flight of steps facing the courtyard. Lower wall attached and running southwards to enclose the west edge of the forecourt.
