Description

The Beacon is a house dating from around 1820, with 20th-century additions to the right. The left side of the building is stuccoed with incised decoration, while the rest is rendered. It has hipped slate roofs and rendered stacks to the left, right, and rear right.

The original part of the house is a square main range, with a later square three-bay extension to the right and a further 20th-century extension to the extreme right. The left side has two storeys and three bays, featuring paired end pilasters with acanthus and lotus capitals. Pilaster piers are situated either side of the centre, decorated with incised details and a geometric band beneath the capitals. Bracketed eaves have a guttae peg and bayleaf garland frieze between the pilasters and piers. The first floor has three glazing bar sash windows. The ground floor has paired casement doors, set in moulded surrounds and protected by a projecting plat hood supported by brackets. A central six-panel door is under a metal tracery radiating fanlight, within a flat portico with Doric pilasters tapering above pedestals.

The three-bay extension to the right has glazing bar sashes in moulded architrave surrounds on the first floor. A projecting section on the ground floor has a cornice supported by angle Doric piers with pedestals. Glazing bar sash windows are above a projecting apron that merges with a plinth on the ground floor. A single-storey brick extension to the right incorporates a triple garage opening and a square wooden lantern with louvred boarding above.

The return front on the left has a bow window. A parallel range is located to the rear left, along with lower extensions to the rear.
