Description

The Old Pay House is a 17th-century cottage that was extended at the rear in the 1930s. It features a timber frame set on a stone plinth with brick infill and has a plain tiled roof with a central ridge stack. The building is two storeys high and consists of three framed bays, which were originally designed for lobby entry. It has latticed leaded casements and a planked door located in a single-storey flat roof extension at the left end, which connects to an end pavilion via a half-glazed corridor. The return fronts are tile hung.

Inside, the framing is visible, and there are stop-chamfered ceiling beams in the ground floor room to the right. The ground floor room to the left retains its original brick floor. There are deep brick fireplaces between the rooms, featuring wooden lintels, as well as a salt cupboard and a bread oven.
