Description

Shrubbs Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the early 17th century, with remodels in the 19th century and an extension added in the 1870s. It features a timber-framed structure with a whitewashed brick base and exposed brick infill above, along with whitewashed brick extensions and slate roofs. The building has an L-shaped plan with a wing extending to the rear left.

It stands two storeys tall and has a multiple ridge stack located to the left of the centre, as well as a large ridge stack on the rear wing. The main front of the house includes a pent-roofed projection at the left end, which starts just below the eaves. The ground floor projects under this pent roof to the right. There is an attic on the left side with two flat-roof dormers at eaves height, and to the right on the first floor, there are two casement windows. The ground floor features three casement windows, including a taller three-light casement to the right of centre, and a plank door positioned to the right of centre.

On the left-hand return front, the frame is exposed on the first floor, where there are two casement windows on both the first and ground floors, including a five-light window on the ground floor to the left. Inside, substantial framing is visible, particularly in the ceilings, and there are deep fireplaces on the ground floor, one of which has a stone arch.
