Description
229 Laleham Road, known as Carrara Cottage, was built in 1907 by architect W. E. Watson for a representative of Doulton's named Bone. The house showcases a mix of typical Edwardian architectural features, including a two-storey bow, a two-storey bay, and a wide semi-circular central entrance with a recessed doorway. Its notable characteristics are primarily due to the materials used, which include Doulton's green glazed blocks for the bay, bow, dressings, joggled voussoirs, and steps leading to the terrace in front of the entrance, as well as the plinth. The house is otherwise a plain two-and-a-half-storey rendered structure with a tiled roof, featuring three chimneys and a central tripartite attic dormer with a central gable. There is also a gabled stair-turret at the rear. Inside, the property retains many original features, including a staircase fireplace in the east room on the ground floor and decorated tiles in the first-floor bathroom.
