Description
The front railings, entrance walls, and gates at Orchard House date from the 18th century. They feature stuccoed brick piers and plinth walls, complemented by iron railings and gates. The end piers are approximately 8 feet high, square in shape, and have moulded pedestals, incised detailing, and spherical finials topped with central vermiculated blocks. Below the spear railings, the plinth walls support flat scrolled standards on each side, flanking the central gates, which are designed with scrolls at angles to the piers. The central paired gates are set under a flat lintel and adorned with a scroll and fleur-de-lys crest that contains a cartouche and the house name. Additionally, there is a wave scroll band on the centre rail of the gates. To the left, a curved quadrant wall rises to about 8 feet high and features brick-on-edge coping as it returns to connect with the left side of the house.
