Description

Sunbury Nursing Lodge West Lodge is a house that has been converted into a nursing home. It dates from the early 18th century but was refaced in the 19th century, with additional extensions added to the right during the same period. The building is finished in whitewashed stucco and features a restored 20th-century hipped plain tiled roof, while the extensions have hipped slate roofs made of brick and stucco.

The main structure stands three storeys high on a plinth, topped with a stone-coped parapet and rendered end stacks. The extensions to the right are two storeys tall. The front of the original building is a regular five-bay design, showcasing five 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows on the first and second floors, each with rendered heads that project and wide sills beneath. There is a plat band above the ground floor, which has four windows below.

The central entrance consists of double half-glazed doors framed by Doric pilasters and topped with a flat entablature hood. On the first floor of the right-hand extension, there is a 30-pane glazing-bar sash window arranged in a 5 by 6 light configuration, with a smaller window below it. A pentice is located on the left-hand return front, which is set back and connects to a staggered link that features one glazing-bar sash window on each face. This link connects to the central block with a hipped slate roof, which has two blocked windows on the first floor and two plate glass sash windows. Additionally, there is an angle bay sash window on the ground floor to the left, positioned above glazed double doors.
