Description
Ye Olde Six Bells is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the early 16th century, with additions made in the 17th century. The building features a timber frame with whitewashed brick infill at the bottom and diagonal tile hanging above. The roof on the right side is covered with Horsham slabs, with smaller slabs at the ridge, while the left side has a half-tiled roof and a tile-hung gable. There are stacks at both ends and at the rear, slightly off-center. The layout is L-shaped, with a gable-fronted wing on the left and a pent roof break at the re-entrant angle. The left side has two storeys, while the right side has one storey and attics, featuring two glazing bar sash lucarne windows. The fenestration is irregular, with two 20th-century casements on the ground floor of the left wing. There is a half-glazed door to the right, another half-glazed door at the right angle, and a half-glazed door on the first floor to the left, accessed by a flight of external stairs. A brick extension with a pent roof is located at the right end. The timber frame is exposed on the left-hand return front.
