Description

This is a house, originally dating to the early 18th century, with a rear wing from the early 17th century. The front part of the house was refaced in the early to mid-19th century. The front elevation is rendered with tile hanging to the first floor facing the street. It has a hipped tiled roof and rendered and brick stacks. The front has two storeys and two windows, with 12-pane sash windows, the upper windows having horns. A side elevation features 20th-century casements and an 18th-century doorcase with a flat wooden hood supported on brackets, framing a panelled door with the top two panels glazed. The rear elevation is of painted brick and has an 18th-century 12-pane sash with a cambered head and top-opening casement. The early 17th-century wing to the rear is rendered with a tile roof and a large external chimneystack. It has two storeys, an attic and a cellar. One end elevation has an 18th-century sash window to the first floor, a casement to the attic, and the ground floor is obscured by a single-storey Victorian brick building. Inside the front part of the house, a timber cornice with triglyphs is visible. The early 17th-century wing has exposed ceiling beams and a probable early 17th-century three-plank door. A store room in the attic features a timber barred internal light and a timber stock lock. Attic doors have strap hinges likely dating to the early 17th century. An external chimneystack probably conceals a substantial open fireplace.
