Description

This is a late 18th or early 19th century former stable and coach-house, originally part of Browne's Lodge. The two-storey east front has four windows, with a lower ground floor at the south end and a very irregular design. The building is constructed of red brick with a hipped tiled roof and two chimneys that have been rebuilt. A bay on the north side may be a later addition. Some early 19th century sash windows with glazing bars remain, although some have been replaced with modern casements. A small pointed window is located at the south-east end. A modern shop now projects to the south. The west front features a range of gauged brick arches, some round and some flat, although many now contain modern windows. The building is currently in commercial use and is included on the list primarily for its historical association with and group value alongside Browne’s Lodge.
