Description
Landen's is a farmhouse that dates back to the late 16th century, with its north-west wing marked on the 1602 map of Horley as belonging to John Bayall of London, which is how it got its name. A double-pile wing was added to the south-east in the 18th century. The north-west wing is timber-framed but was refronted in brickwork in the early 19th century. It features a tiled roof with a central brick stack.
The building is T-shaped and has two storeys with irregular window arrangements, primarily consisting of 20th-century casements. The south-west front includes a cambered doorcase with a plank door. Inside, a spine beam is visible. The south-east wing, which is 18th century, has two parallel ranges; the ground floor is made of red brick, while the first floor is tile-hung, topped with a hipped tiled roof and end brick stacks. It has two windows with shutters. The north-west elevation features a projecting central bay with an attached 19th-century pump and stone trough, along with a doorcase that has a moulded architrave.
