Description
The Six Flare Kilns at Betchworth Pits are a battery of flare kilns built around 1872 by the Brockham Brick Company as part of its lime quarrying operations. The kilns are arranged in a rectangular formation and feature round kilns set on a plinth that is approximately 25 feet high. They are constructed of brick and have iron bands around the kilns, along with iron handrails across the front. Currently, three of the six towers remain, each standing 20 feet high and originally designed to be top loaded. This site is part of a notable group of industrial buildings. Records related to the Brockham Brick Company can be found in the Surrey County Record Office.
