Description

The Dietz Kilns at Betchworth Pits are the remains of two pairs of kilns built in 1887 and 1897 by the Brockham Brick Company for lime quarrying. The kilns are constructed of brown brick, featuring iron ties around the plinths and shafts, with a steel superstructure connecting the two almost complete kilns at the western end. The two towers on the west rise approximately 100 feet above an arcaded plinth that originally housed the ovens. Only the remains of this plinth survive at the eastern end, extending for about 100 feet. The arched entrances to the ovens are now blocked with debris, and part of the structure is in near ruinous condition as of the last survey.
