Description
The brick kilns at Brockham Quarry date from around 1870 and are built into a hillside. They feature a rectangular plinth that originally supported eight kiln chimneys. The plinth has brick-dressed arches at the front, which provide access to the main firing chamber, approached via a sunken road. While seven of the original kilns have collapsed, the northernmost kiln remains intact. This kiln has a bottle shape and is reinforced with iron ties, standing approximately 15 feet high. These kilns were part of the industrial complex associated with the Brockham Brick Company, which extracted limestone and hearthstone on the site. Records related to the Brockham Brick Company can be found at the Surrey County Record Office.
