Description

The Borough Bridge is a bridge dated 1737, as indicated by a stone plaque set into the parapet. It was built by Richard and Thomas Skelton and has undergone some reinstatement of parts of the parapet and cutwaters in the 20th century. The bridge is constructed of brown brick in English bond, with some repairs made using red and black brick. It features seven round-headed arches, three of which serve as storm overflow arches, along with a circular brick tunnel. The upstream side is adorned with triangular brick pilasters topped with tooled stone coping, which are set in pointed cutwaters reinforced with 20th-century cement. The downstream side includes buttresses.
