Description
Heron's Head Farm House is a house, possibly a hall, dating from the early 16th century, which was extended and altered in the 19th century. It has a timber frame with some main posts exposed, and the ground floor is clad in whitewashed brick, while the left side of the first floor is also whitewashed brick, with tile hanging above in a fishscale pattern. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, featuring a gablet on the left side. The house has two storeys, with a corbelled 20th-century stack on the left and an offset stack at the front right of centre.
On the first floor left, there are two windows, and on the ground floor left, there are two windows, one of which is a three-light window with old glass in diamond panes. There is a pentice extension to the ground floor left, situated at the angle with the stack, which includes one window and one door. The main door is located to the left in a brick extension with a porch recess, featuring leaded margin lights. The left side also has a part tile-hung pentice extension.
At the rear, there is a gable wing on the right with buttresses at the ground floor, and each floor has one three-light window, with the ground floor window set under a cambered head. There are two additional windows on both the first and ground floors to the left, along with a glazed door in the return wall of the wing. Inside, the ceiling frames are exposed, showcasing chamfered joists and framed partition walls. There is a possibility that the site was once moated.
