Barn approx, 35 metres 7.9.51 north east of Roaring House Farmhouse, with attached stable and cow-house

GV II

Barn and attached stable and cow-house. Probably C17; altered. Timber frame on brick plinth, with weatherboard cladding, red tile roof. Rectangular 3-bay plan on north-south axis with aisle on east side, with stable at north end and cow-house at south end. In the centre of the west side is a full-height wagon doorway (with replacement double doors); set back at the left end is a 2-storey 2-bay stable which has a stable-door to the right and an unglazed square window to the left with vertical wooden slats, and a loft door in the gable wall; set back at the right-hand end is a single-storey 2-bay cow-house with a stable-door in the 1st bay. Rear: central gabled portal with weather-boarding replacing wagon doors, flanked by cat-slide roofs to the side aisles. Interior: post-and-truss construction with arch-bracing from central posts to tie-beams and to the aisle- plate over the rear portal, staggered purlins supported by raked double queen posts, with windbraces at both ends.
