Description
Dillon Cottage and Old Mill Cottage are two cottages located at the junction of The Street and Wonham Lane in Betchworth. They date from the late 16th century, with a later 18th-century range at right angles to them.
Old Mill Cottage, which faces Wonham Lane, is timber framed and covered in whitewashed roughcast, with whitewashed rubblestone at the base and a plain tiled roof. It has two storeys, with the first floor jettied out on joist ends at the right end. There is a 19th-century stack at the left end and an H-section stack to the left of center. The cottage features 19th-century casement windows, with six varying-sized windows on the first floor and five on the ground floor, including a four-light window to the left. The entrance door is located to the left of center, sheltered by a drip hood.
Dillon Cottage faces the street and has the jettied end of Old Mill Cottage to its left, with one window on each floor. It is built of painted brick, has a plain tiled roof, and a tile-hung gable end to the right. This cottage also has two storeys, with two larger windows on the ground floor that have cambered heads. The entrance door is positioned to the right of center, beneath a small gable end with a relieving arch. There is a door on the right-hand return front under a flat hood supported by brackets, and a single-storey range extends to the right.
