Description
Old Gables is a house dating from the 16th century, with a front added in the early 18th century. It is timber framed and has been refronted in red and brown brick, with some parts colourwashed and blue brick headers over the windows. The house features a plain tiled hipped roof and stands two storeys high on a plinth, with a plat band over the ground floor, a moulded eaves board, and oversailing gables at both ends of the roof. There are offset end stacks. The front is regular, with leaded casement windows: five on the first floor and four below, all under cambered heads, with one blocked window to the left of centre. The central entrance consists of a planked door in an old frame, topped by a flat hood supported by scroll brackets. At the rear, there are two wings and three gables, along with a central rendered hipped roof porch. Inside, some framing is visible, mainly in the ceilings, and there is an early 18th-century staircase.
