Description

House. Built in the late 16th century, with alterations in the 19th century and 20th-century extensions to the rear. It is timber-framed with sandstone cladding to the front, brick dressings around windows and corners, and exposed framing on a cross wing with rendered infill and red brick infilling in sandstone plinths. The roofs are covered in plain tiles. The house has a T-shaped plan, with a long wing set at a right angle to the rear left. It has double-ended stacks on the rear right and a finely corbelled double-ended stack to the rear right of centre. The house is two storeys high, with a plat band above the ground floor on the left and centre. The front has a regular appearance on the left, with five three-light, leaded, wood-framed casement windows to the first floor, set under gauged brick heads. There is diamond patterning in the brickwork between the second and third windows on the left. A bonding course of brick runs down from each first-floor window to the plat band. There are two smaller ground-floor windows on the left and two larger windows to the right, all set under gauged brick heads. The cross wing on the right is jettied on the first floor, featuring a moulded bressumer and a tiled pentice course. The ground floor of this wing displays close stud framing with ogee bracing and decorative semi-circular framing in the gable. There is one casement window on each floor. A ribbed door is located in the centre left, set within a quoined brick surround with a flat hood supported by metal brackets. The wing to the rear left has a triple ridge stack and sandstone walling. The interior retains visible timber framing, particularly on ceilings.
