Description

Whipley Manor is a house dating from the 16th century, with an 18th-century front and an early 18th-century extension to the left. The gable features the inscription "1737 H.K." The building is timber framed and clad in red and brown brick, with a brown brick wing on the right and a left-hand wing made of blue brick with red brick dressings. It has a plain tiled roof, which includes shaped tiles on the half-hipped roof to the right. The house stands two storeys high on a plinth, with a gauged brick plat band over the ground floor on the left and another plat band at the centre and right over the ground floor. There is a tall multiple stack to the left of centre with a corbelled top and an end stack on the right. The left wing projects and features one 20-pane glazing bar sash window in a flush box frame on each floor, both under gauged brick heads. The first floor has three casement windows, with the middle window in a projecting break. There is a false window painted to the left and two larger ground floor casements in the centre under cambered heads. The right-hand extension has one casement window on the first floor and one glazing bar sash window below. The central entrance features a fielded panel door adorned with carved festoons and classical figures.

At the rear, there is a tile-hung wing and two hipped wings at the centre. Inside, some of the original framing is preserved, including old exterior close-stud walls and a deep brick fireplace.
