Description

The Old Farmhouse is a late 16th-century house, originally a single property, that has been divided and extended in the 19th century. It is located on Poyle Road, Tongham. The house is timber-framed with a rendered plinth, filled with whitewashed brick. The right-hand return wall is brick-clad and the roof is tiled, with a half-hipped section to the right end. The prominent, projecting gabled bay to the left end has an attic and displays curved decorative bracing. Curved and braced detailing is also present to the first floor on the right-hand side. The windows are leaded casements; one window is situated on each floor to the left, with further windows on each floor to the right. A ground floor window is incorporated into a pentice roof extension to the left end. A 20th-century door is set within a hipped roof porch located in the re-entrant angle between the gabled bay and the main house, positioned to the left of centre. A further, part-glazed door is present in a single-storey extension set back to the right end. A wing extends to the rear at a right angle to the main house.
