Description

This is a lamp post located 30 yards northwest of the monument in Whiteley Village, dating from around 1912. It is made of cast iron and features a square, four-legged base with a diagonally framed basket top. The lamp post has a tapering standard that supports a lantern with a decorative finial, which is mounted on a double scroll-work S-curve arm. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for elderly residents and was designed in an octagonal layout by Frank Atkinson, using prominent architects of the time.
