Description
No 130 on Octagon Road in Whiteley Village is an almshouse built around 1912. It features red brick construction with raised quoins and has a swept, hipped roof covered with plain tiles, including semi-dormers on the north and west sides. The building is single storey with an attic and has one window on each face. The entrance is located in the re-entrant angle to the southeast, marked by a flat hood on the corner supported by a rusticated brick pier, leading to a half-glazed door. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores to provide housing for thrifty elderly individuals and was designed in an octagonal layout by Frank Atkinson, utilizing prominent architects of the time.
