Description
Nos. 15 and 16 Chestnut Crescent are a pair of almshouses built around 1929 by Maurice Webb. They are constructed of red brick and feature a plain tiled roof with end ridge stacks that have rubbed brick coping at the gable ends. The buildings are single-storey with a parapet that breaks through the eaves of the outer bays. The design includes three bays, with a three-light sash window in each outer bay. There is a central pier with a projecting pilaster and arched recess bays, which are accessed by a flight of two steps. A three-bay trabeated colonnade with square brick piers and wooden lintels connects the outer bays, with dado walls linking Nos. 15 and 16 to Nos. 11 to 14 to the northwest. Chestnut Crescent was added to the original octagonal plan of Whiteley Village, and these buildings were designed in a similar style. They are included in the listing for their group value.
