Description

No. 15 North Avenue, part of an almshouse group, was built around 1912, possibly by Sir Reginald Blomfield. The building is constructed of red brick and features moulded brick pilaster quoins on the main block, topped with a hipped, pyramidal tiled roof. There is a hipped roof on the wing at the back, with an end ridge stack on the wing and a tall stack with a projecting breast on the right-hand side of the main block. The front has two storeys, while the rear has one storey. The front facade consists of two bays, with casement windows and a segmental-headed entrance arch to the left on the ground floor. There is a single casement window on either side of the right-hand return front. Both floors have a chimney breast, with the entrance arch for No. 152 Octagon Road located to the right. The wing facing Octagon Road features a central casement window, flanked on the left by an oculus and on the right by an entrance arch leading to No. 150. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for elderly residents and was designed on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, incorporating prominent architects of the time.
