Description
No. 128 on Octagon Road, which also includes No. 19 Chestnut Walk, is an almshouse built around 1912. It is constructed of red brick with raised quoins and features swept hipped roofs with semi-dormers on the east and west sides, along with one ridge stack. The building is single storey with an attic accessed through the dormers, and has one window on each face. The entrance is located in the re-entrant angles to the north and is topped by a flat hood supported by a corner rusticated brick pier. The door is half-glazed. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty elderly residents and was designed on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, utilizing prominent architects of the time.
