Description
Nos. 2 and 4 Heather Walk are a pair of almshouses built around 1912 by Sir Mervyn Macartney. They are constructed of red brick, featuring a plinth and a plat band, with a coved cornice beneath a pyramidal, plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and two bays, with two casement windows on the first floor. The ground floor windows are arched with keystones; the right-hand window is blocked with inset casements, while the left-hand window forms an entrance arch. These almshouses are linked to Nos. 35-43 Circle Road. Whiteley Village, where they are located, was designed on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, who worked with prominent architects of the time, and was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores.
