Description

Nos. 44 to 52 Church Street is a row of houses with shops below, featuring a core from the 17th century and frontages from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The buildings are constructed of brick, with the right end being whitewashed. They have a plain tiled roof that is raised over Nos. 46 and 52, with brick stacks located at the right end, the rear of Nos. 48 and 50, and at the left end.

Nos. 44 and 46, located on the right, are two storeys tall and consist of four bays. They have 19th-century sash windows on the first floor and shop windows on the ground floor, with central, recessed, double half-glazed doors. No. 42 has two bays with 19th-century sash windows beneath segmental heads, and gauged brickwork on the first floor. The ground floor is rusticated and rendered, featuring a tri-partite segmental head sash window to the right in a moulded surround, and a four-panel door to the left with a transom light in a moulded surround.

Nos. 50 and 52 are built of red brick and have a wooden eaves cornice. They consist of five bays with glazing bar sashes, including two 18th-century windows in the centre and one 19th-century window to the right. The ground floor has a plate glass window and a tri-partite sash window to the right. There is a panelled door with a transom light to the left of No. 52 and a plate glass door to the right of No. 50. The rear of the buildings has 20th-century extensions.
