Description
West Lodge is a lodge to Whiteley Village, built around 1912 by Frank Atkinson. The building is constructed of red brick and features a plain tiled roof with a central ridge stack. It is a single storey with an attic, which includes a flat-roofed dormer. To the left, there is a hipped roof break with a plat band above the ground floor and at the eaves. The ground floor has two casement windows with gauged brick heads. The central entrance is a half-glazed door set in a porch recess, flanked by a freestanding square pier on the right and half piers on the left. The porch lintels and the piers feature gauged brick detailing. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty elderly residents and was designed on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, using prominent architects of the time.
