Description
The entrance piers, gates, and railings to Whiteley Village were constructed around 1912. They feature brick piers with stone dressings, iron railings, and gates that stretch approximately 80 feet in length. There are two pairs of square brick piers, each with panelled sides and stone coping, standing about 10 feet high and spaced 10 feet apart at the ends. Between these piers are iron side gates, approximately 9 feet high, adorned with a decorative roundel band and a fillet, as well as an oval band at the base. The inner main gate piers rise to about 15 feet high and include a stone band and a projecting cornice above, positioned 10 feet from the side piers, with linking railings in between. The main gate piers are flanked by lower piers and topped with a crowning lantern. The central gates are segmental arched and are hung from iron standards with spiral finials, featuring an oval cartouche and shield at the center of each gate.
