Description
The Administration Block, built around 1937 by Maurice Webb, is located in Whiteley Village, which was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for elderly residents. The building is constructed of red brick and features a steeply pitched hipped roof with plain tiles that rises over cross wings at either end. It has a symmetrical design and is a single storey high. The front includes one 4-light sash window in the center, flanked by two 3-light sash windows on each side. The end bays are set back and each contains one sash window, all of which have tiled cills. There are brick tile twisted piers at the ends and on either side of the central bay, which rests on square pedestals. The entrance bay in the center is recessed and features a half-glazed door within a three-step brick surround. The village was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, who worked with prominent architects of the time.
