Description
The terrace and retaining wall across the Club, Hall, and numbers 1, 1A, and 3 in Whiteley Village were built in red brick with stone coping and tile dressings at the center. The structure is approximately 300 feet long, with the lower wall standing 3 feet high and the upper wall set back by 6 feet, rising to a height of 4 feet. The walls are buttressed every 12 feet, and there are square piers about 4 feet high at each end. The design includes angle bay projections that connect the rear wall to the front wall on both sides of the center.
At the center, there is a recessed area featuring a flight of 7 stone steps, followed by rectangular banding and another flight of 7 steps leading upwards. There are subsidiary stairs at the left and right ends of the terrace. The stairs are equipped with iron handrails that have swept ends, supported by twisted iron balusters. Additionally, cast iron lanterns are mounted on open tapering standards with oval panels on each face, located at the ends of the terrace and on the piers and top of the central staircase.
