Description

The remains of a grotto and rockwork bridge on Grotto Island date from the late 18th century. The structure features brick walls covered with boulders and shells, with tufa and Derbyshire spa stone used for the interior. Originally, the grotto had a circular domed roof, which has now collapsed. There are three arched entrances facing the lake. To the left, a tunnel leads to an arched rockwork bridge that spans an arm of the lake, with a landing stage situated below.
