Description
This is a house with shops, likely dating from the 16th century, and altered subsequently. It has a steeply-pitched slate roof. The upper floors are timber-framed and slightly jettied, with a cill rail to the second floor, and plaster infill. The house is three storeys high, with two windows on each floor. The first floor has mid-19th century sash windows. Projecting shop windows with an angled corner are set within an ashlar surround, with an entrance in the centre. There is an alleyway entry to the left, with a Tudor arch containing roses in the spandrels and a datestone above. The alleyway is angled, with another Tudor arch providing access to the rear. The shop is entered from the alley. The datestone displays the woolmark of Simon Wisdom and the date 1582. Inside, there are chamfered beams, probably dating from the 16th century, featuring stepped stops and massive corbels supporting the first-floor fireplace.
