Description
The Croft is a Chartist bungalow built around 1847. It features rendered stone rubble with rendered quoins at the corners and a slate hipped roof. The building has rendered stone end stacks and a central stack at the rear. It is a single-storey structure with a three-bay range, where the central bay projects forward. There is a glazed porch at the center with a glazed door, and 20th-century single-light casements to the left and right of the center. Additionally, there are two-light casements on both sides. The central bay has a cross-gable with a quatrefoil ventilation stone. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Charterville was the third of five estates created by the National Land Company, which was established by Feargus O'Connor in 1845 to help people from factory towns live on small holdings and qualify for a vote. The Land Company faced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
