Description
This is a Chartist bungalow, likely dating from circa 1847. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble with render quoins to the corners, and features a slate hipped roof with rendered stone end stacks. The building is a single-storey, three-bay range, with the central bay projecting forward. A porch is situated centrally, housing a sash door. Single-light casements are located to the left and right of the central bay, with two-light casements to the left and right further out. A cross-gable is present on the central bay, featuring a decorative double-quatrefoil ventilation stone. The interior has not been inspected. Its historical context relates to Charterville, the third of five estates established by the National Land Company in 1845. This company, formed by Feargus O'Connor, aimed to enable people from factory towns to live on small holdings and qualify for a vote. The Land Company encountered difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
