Description
No. 86 Brize Norton Road is a Chartist bungalow built around 1847. It features roughcast on stone rubble with rendered quoins at the corners, and has a slate hipped roof with brick stacks at both ends and various brick stacks at the rear. The building is single-storey with a central four-panel part-glazed door. There are single-light casements on either side of the door, and two-light casements to the left and right. A cross-gable is located above the central bay, which includes a quatrefoil ventilation stone. The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, Charterville was the third of five estates established by the National Land Company, formed by Feargus O'Connor in 1845. The aim was to help people from factory towns live on small holdings and qualify for a vote. However, the Land Company faced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
