Description
No. 104 on Brize Norton Road is a Chartist bungalow built around 1847. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble and features a hipped slate roof, with rendered stone end stacks and a central stack at the rear. The building is single-storey and has a three-bay range, with the central bay projecting forward. The entrance consists of a 20th-century part-glazed door located in the center, flanked by 20th-century single-light casements on either side, and 20th-century two-light casements to the left and right. There is a cross-gable on the central bay that includes a double-quatrefoil ventilation stone. The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, Charterville was the third of five estates created by the National Land Company, which was established by Feargus O'Connor in 1845. The aim was to allow people from factory towns to live on small holdings and gain the right to vote. However, the Lane Company faced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
