Description
Brooks Holding is a Chartist bungalow built around 1847. It features rendered stone rubble with rendered quoins at the corners and a slate hipped roof, along with a rendered stone end stack on the right. The building is a single-storey, three-bay range, with the central bay projecting forward. It has a four-panel part-glazed door in the center, single-light casements to the left and right of the door, and two-light casements on either side. The central bay also has a cross-gable with a double-quatrefoil ventilation stone. The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, Charterville was the third of five estates established by the National Land Company, which was formed by Feargus O'Connor in 1845. The aim was to allow people from factory towns to live on small holdings and qualify for a vote. However, the Land Company faced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
