Description
17 Upper Crescent is a Chartist bungalow built around 1847. It features a rendered exterior on stone rubble with rendered quoins at the corners and a slate hipped roof, with no visible stacks. The building is a single-storey, three-bay range, with the central bay projecting forward. There are 20th-century two-light casements in the center and single-light casements to the left and right. The central bay has a cross-gable with a quatrefoil ventilation stone. A 20th-century door is located at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Charterville was the third of five estates established by the National Land Company, which was formed by Feargus O'Connor in 1845 to help people from factory towns live on small holdings and qualify for a vote. The Land Company faced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
