Description
Japonica is a Grade II listed Chartist bungalow located on Burford Road in Minster Lovell, dating from around 1847. The building is constructed of uncoursed rubble stone and features a slate hipped roof with a stone stack at the rear. It is a single-storey structure with a three-bay range, where the central bay projects forward. The entrance is a 20th-century door set within a 20th-century stone porch. To either side of the center, there are 20th-century single-light windows, and 20th-century two-light casements are also present on both sides. A cross-gable adorns the central bay. The interior has not been inspected.
Historically, Charterville was the third of five estates established by the National Land Company, which was formed by Feargus O'Connor in 1845. The aim was to provide people from factory towns with small holdings to qualify for a vote. However, the Land Company faced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
