Description

Windrush is a Chartist bungalow dating to circa 1847. It is constructed of uncoursed rubble stone with a slate hipped roof, and no chimney stacks are visible. The building is a single-storey, three-bay range, with the central bay projecting forward. A four-panel, part-glazed door is situated in a brick open porch at the centre. There are horned sash windows to the left and right of the centre, and four-pane horned sashes to the left and right. A cross-gable is present over the central bay, featuring a quatrefoil ventilation stone. The interior has not been inspected. Windrush is part of Charterville, the third of five estates established by the National Land Company in 1845, a company founded by Feargus O’Connor to provide small holdings for people from factory towns, enabling them to qualify for a vote. The Land Company experienced difficulties and was dissolved in July 1851.
