Description
Roundhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1708, although it may have been constructed in the early 19th century. It is made of coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings and features a Stonesfield-slate roof. The house has a three-unit plan with a rear wing and is one storey plus an attic.
The front of the house has three windows and a doorway located to the left of the center. The doorway has a ribbed door, a flat arch, and is sheltered by a gabled stone-roofed porch. There are three 2-light stone-mullioned windows with labels, and at the first floor, there are gabled 2-light half dormers. The left end wall has two similar mullioned windows at ground level, one of which is blocked, and below the gable, there is a shield-shaped plaque that displays arms and the date "MDCCVIII". The gables feature parapets and ashlar stacks that have been built up in brick. The small rear wing also has a parapet. The interior has not been inspected. This farmhouse is an important part of the farm landscape that was developed by J.C. Loudon around 1810.
