Description
Quarry House, barn, shelter sheds, and attached walls are located on the west side of the B4022 in Great Tew and date from around 1830. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared marlstone with marlstone and limestone ashlar dressings, topped with Stonesfield-slate roofs and an ashlar gable stack. The main range features a three-bay barn with a central porch and a single-bay double-depth cottage. The porch includes marlstone-ashlar buttresses and a weatherboarded gable, while the outer bays have ogee-headed slits. The cottage on the left has two 2-light stone-mullioned windows above a 3-light mullioned window, all adorned with limestone dressings and labels. The left gable wall features a segmental-arched chamfered-stone doorway, flanked by short buttresses with sloping weatherings. The roof has gable parapets with moulded kneelers and a stack on the left side. There are opposed barn doors at the rear. The shelter sheds extend six bays from the rear and return five bays to the right, supported by circular stone piers with caps and bases. The interiors have not been inspected. An attached farmyard wall, approximately 1.5 meters high, continues to the right from the rear range, featuring a two-course triangular coping and returning along the right side of the yard with a flat coping that curves outward to the central gate.
