Description
The barn range at Gyle's Farm is a Grade II listed building dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings and features Stonesfield-slate roofs. The barn has five bays, a central porch, and full-height doors at the rear. The porch gable is weatherboarded, and each bay has "candle" slits. To the left, there is a large segmental-arched through cartway with remnants of double doors, which is part of a slightly lower range that includes a loft above. The front of the barn also has a stable door with a label and three lancet openings on the first floor. Additional lancet windows are located at the rear, and there is a stone-mullioned window in the gable wall. To the right of the barn is a low range featuring a pointed-arched loft door in its right gable. The interiors have not been inspected. This building is a significant part of the farm landscape that was developed by J.C. Loudon around 1810 and later by the Boulton family.
