Description

GREAT TEW B4031 SP43SW (South side) 3/32 Barn range at Gyles's Farm 15/08/79 (Formerly listed as Barn and stable block at Gyles Farm) GV II Barn, stable and farmbuilding. Early C19. Coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings; Stonesfield-slate roofs. 5-bay barn has central porch and full-height opposed rear doors. Porch gable is weatherboarded and there are "candle" slits to each bay. Immediately to left is a large segmental-arched through cartway, with remains of double doors, forming part of a slightly lower range with loft over. Front also has a stable door with label and, at first floor, 3 lancet openings. Further lancets at rear, and in the gable wall a stone-mullioned window. To right of the barn is a low range with a pointed-arched loft door in its right gable. Interiors not inspected. The buildings form an important element in the farm landscape developed by J.C. Loudon c.1810, and developed by the Boulton family.
