Description
Nos. 8 and 10 Market Square is a shop and dwelling built around 1830, consisting of two ranges. The left range, No. 10, features squared and coursed limestone with ashlar dressings, a gabled Welsh slate roof, and brick end stacks. It has a two-unit plan, two storeys, and a three-window range. The entrance includes a 20th-century glazed door with an overlight. To the left, there is a canted bay window with 20th-century plate-glass, and to the right, a late 19th-century three-light plate-glass shop front with a moulded cornice. The windows are topped with keyed flat stone arches, featuring late 19th-century horned plate-glass sashes and three-pane sashes in the attic, along with a raised storey band.
The right range, built around 1840, is stuccoed with a gabled Welsh slate roof and brick rear stacks. It has a one-unit plan, two storeys, and a two-window range that includes an overlight and a 19th-century flat hood. There is a square bay window with 20th-century plate-glass to the left, and first-floor sashes, each with six panes over plate-glass. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
