Description

This is a barn, cowhouse, and attached outbuilding located at the north end of Grenemore, dated 1761 with some minor later alterations. The structure is built from regularly coursed limestone rubble with alternating angle quoins that extend to the gable ends. The roofs are covered with concrete tiles, except for half of the rear plane of the cowhouse roof, which has stone slates, and feature coped verges.

The barn has a wide central entrance with opposing plank doors and triangular air vents on either side facing the road. The date "1761" is inscribed on the quoin at the south-east angle. The cowhouse has a chamfered cambered doorway to the left and a narrow chamfered rectangular window to the right, with a gabled eaves hatch and plank door directly above the window. There is also a wide plank door to the left of the attached outbuilding.

Inside, the barn features a collar and tie beam roof supported in four bays with double butt-purlins. The cowhouse has a similar roof in two bays, a cobblestone floor, and 19th-century cowstalls and troughs. The outbuilding has a collar and tie beam truss, which is supported on one side by what appears to be part of a reused chamfered cruck blade. Although these farm buildings are attached to Grenemore, they are actually part of Home Farm.
