Description
The Kings Arms Hotel is a public house located on West Street in Chipping Norton. It dates back to the 17th century but was refronted in the late 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed and squared rubblestone, with some dressed stone quoining, and features a steeply pitched slate roof with end brick stacks, one of which has a moulded stone base. The hotel has an L-shaped plan at the corner of two roads and consists of two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range.
Above the eaves line, there are two segmental-headed dormers with 2-pane casements. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes, while the ground floor windows are also sashed and are linked by a flush ashlar string course. The entrance features a double, glazed and battened 20th-century door located in the third bay from the left. A side wing at an angle has similar sashed windows on the ground and first floors, with a 2-light wooden casement above; however, these windows are not original, unlike those facing West Street.
